[Infirmary spam, Saturday through Tuesday]

[After his fight with Vergil, someone must have taken his body and put it in the infirmary. He wakes up with a pain in his chest that's distracting enough that he doesn't worry about the scratching in his lungs, but he feels almost calm about everything that had happened. Vergil had killed him, and even though he'd changed his deal weeks ago, he's a little glad he experienced that kind of a death anyway.

He's a good patient: calm, takes his medicine when he needs to, doesn't complain too much. After all, when you've spent as much time on a sickbed (a deathbed, really, but isn't that so depressing?) as he has, a few days of care is no problem. He sends a few messages to people to let them know he's there, but apart from that does very little.

Someone who works in the infirmary may want to do something more than just give him an aspirin, though-- because those nightly coughs sound worse than they should for just a death toll.]

[Video; still from the infirmary, Tuesday.]

[He still looks terrible, physically, but a lot less tense than he did last week. He's not sure where his sword is, but he finds he doesn't care. It's nice- almost like things are back to normal. Apart from the Shas still running around.]

I'm not sure who brought me here, but thank you. To the warden in charge of the gym... [He gives an awkward little grin] I'm sorry. We'll clean up anything you need cleaned, as soon as I'm feeling better! I promise!

[Private to anyone who's been taking down Shas]

I think Vergil's been... 'affected'. [By which he means Vergil brutally stabbed him through the heart, and then kicked his dead body. Rude. Even ruder than usual.] He's in Zero right now. Could anyone- [He stops to think for a second on how to phrase this. Check on him? Exorcise him? That might be a bad idea, since he's a demon... Use magic to bring him back to normal? This is all very confusing.] help him out?

[Video, locked to everyone who signed up for patrols]

[Souji looks tense, less like the cheerful, innocent young man he usually is. He hadn't wanted to make this broadcast, because the patrols were working just fine without his interference, but he's worried. He's broadcasting from his cabin, sitting on the floor, and from this angle it's clear that he's holding on tight to his sword. It's clear that he'd prefer to take action in another way, but for the time being, this is all he can do.]

There have been a number of deaths in the past few days. This is one of the situations for which we set up the patrols, and we need to be even more vigilant than usual. The ship itself doesn't seem to be in any danger, but the people are. [He frowns, and then softens his voice slightly.]

Don't patrol for any longer than you feel up to. You are more use to us rested than tired. If you don't feel up to the task, let your patrol partner know.

Please be careful. If we work together, we can find out what is going on, and take action.

[Souji's lying down on his back on the bed, holding the communicator's camera over his face. There's a mess of brightly colored wrappers on the pillow. There's images of some of the others' Jaegers on the wrappers, cartoonish but still recognizable. Some of them came with toys, which sometimes move into view when he shifts on the bed.]

I've already assembled all of the toys that came with the candy, Vergil is totally ignoring me because we already trained once today, and if I eat any more of this candy I'm going to be sick. Who wants their own action figure? Or candy? Or company?

[Spam]

[He usually has too much energy to not get bored, even on a big base like this one. He'll spend the days before the next Kaiju attack bothering just about everyone who doesn't tell him to scram, and probably even those people. Maybe especially those people. He'll generally be wandering around the mess hall, waiting for his turn to train, and looking on while the other pilots work on their Jaegers in the hangar. Even after a few years of action, he doesn't understand them as well as he probably should, so he enjoys looking over shoulders.]

Several weeks ago Captain Rogers asked who would be willing to help patrol in emergency situations. He's relayed the information to me. Since everyone has very unique qualities, I will refrain- for now- from making too tight a schedule. However, if the situation is dire enough, please try to take directions as to who has to go where.

I've made a list pairing people according to their strengths.
Cut for patrols! )

Please let me know if you object to any of these, and we will find a way to make this work out as best as we can. In extreme situations we will patrol in shifts of 4 hours, allowing everyone enough rest to work at maximum capacity. Those with increased abilities should feel free to patrol alone or with other teams after their regular shift has finished, of course! But please don't strain yourself, for your sake as much as that of others.

If anyone else would like to volunteer, please let either myself or Captain Rogers know, so we can be as organized as possible. And if everyone feels the arrangements are alright, I believe Miss Lovegood and Miss Wildthyme have offered to help us practice...?

[Locked from Vergil]

I'm not sure how to say this, after... ah, everything, just now, but Dante Sparda left. He came to tell me that he had to leave, and he left some things with me. To anyone who knew him: I'm very sorry. If you could refrain from telling his brother until I've seen him, I'd be grateful.

[Locked to Vergil]

I'd like to see you, please. Could we meet in your cabin?

[Locked to Chromie]

Miss Chromie, could I talk to you about something?

[Souji's plenty warm in what he has at home, so all of the decorating he's doing is completely voluntary. It just looks nice and festive, if unfamiliar. He can be found hanging up bows, bells and coloured paper chains in the gym and the hallway and common room of level 4.

When he's all out of glitter he heads down to the art room, where he'll be composing a gift list in graceful, if slightly out-of-practice calligraphy. He's used to writing New Year's wishes to the Shinsengumi's associates; it's really not all that different, he figures.]

Captain Rogers? Would you have some time to talk, soon?

[Souji hasn't been around much in the last few weeks. He's been on the communicator, but he missed the flood. He's been stuck in a Dr.-Cox-mandated quarantine the past 10 days, with nothing to do but figuring out the communicator and sleeping. Needless to say, he's glad to be out.

He doesn't look a lot better than before-- there are still dark circles under his eyes and his skin is too pale. But his voice doesn't sound half as rough, and the energy in his voice is more genuine than it has been for a while.]

Ah, everyone's been so busy lately! I'm sorry I missed it! I listened to the doctor and stayed in, and I feel much better, now. And right on time, huh? [he looks down at a paper on which he wrote down the name of his new warden.] Mister Vergil Sparda? I think we should meet!

[Open spam]

[Souji's lungs are clearer than they've been for a long time. When he coughs, now, there's no more blood, and the relief of that is dizzying. He's not sure what he'll do with his deal, now-- there's little chance of him dying in bed, now that his disease is gone. But he came here to help someone, and he'll see that through.

He figures he has a better chance of doing so if he buffs up a little, though. So he'll be in the gym for as long as he can be. He uses a wooden dummy sword to practice kata, the weight of it allowing him to keep it up for longer than his own sword would have. He heads over to the dining hall after cleaning up, and makes a final stop at the infirmary for his daily medicine and check-up.]

sharpsurprise: (the what goes in the who now?)
[port spam]

[For some reason he hadn't been prepared for how busy the port would be. Following the water he eventually ends up at the train station, pushed along by streams of people too busy to even notice someone so obviously out of place. He makes his way up the stairs to one of the platforms, then parks himself on a bench while he looks at the coming and going of the great yellow and blue machines. He's in awe of how quick they are, how many people fit in them, and how everyone just seems to think this is all normal. He doesn't even notice the growing cold until his lungs start to itch and he heads into the city with his list.

He walks along the water, because he figures that way it'll be easier to find his way back to the Barge. He passes a small marketplace on the Waag and ticks off one measly item on his list. When he sees a stall that sells medicinal tea he can't help but buy a small package, thinking that he owes it to everyone back home to at least try and get better. When he peeks around the corner from the market he sees a Buddhist temple. Even though it's not quite what he's used to, the familiar sight comforts him and lifts his spirits.

Of course, he then proceeds to get royally lost, passing 't Spui, then finding his way back along the Herengracht and the Negen Straatjes.]

[When he gets back at the end of the day he's exhausted, his lungs are burning and his ribs are killing him. His voice is rough, but his eyes are bright and he's beaming.]

This is pretty exciting, huh? Though, to be honest, I could probably use some help with this list! At this rate I won't be ready until the end of winter...

Oh! Since some others have offered-- does anyone need a warden in order to get into the city? I might be able to help.

Turn on camera

Turn camera on

[The feed flickers, and then the newly-calm (or perhaps... too calm) Barge is treated to a close-up of half a nose and part of an eye. The close-up is muttering in Japanese, the image occassionally moving]

Should I just say it...? Ah, I should have read it more carefully...

[suddenly the face moves back, revealing a frowning young man. He's lit by a lantern that sits in a corner, just visible in the background. He looks tired, a little bit too skinny and too pale, but he starts beaming when he apparently notices that the camera is already on. He speaks in English from now on]

I did it, huh? [he sits back and waves cheerfully, tucking some of his long hair behind his ear with the other hand]

I guess everyone's been pretty busy the last few weeks, so I hope I'm not disturbing you. My name is Souji Okita, and I'm new here! I'll work hard to fit in, but I'm still getting used to everything, so go easy on this old man... Oh! I walked around a little bit, and it seems pretty dark! If anyone needs them, I found a lantern and some candles in my room. Please ask me if you need help!
